About the Role

Key Responsibilities
- Lead the mechanical and piping engineering team, providing technical oversight.
- Engineering design, calculations, and analysis, ensuring compliance with relevant standards, regulations, and client requirements.
- Lead and oversee the procurement of process equipment and installation services from concept design through to commissioning by managing equipment specification, layouts, and system integration.
- Act as the primary technical point of contact for mechanical engineering queries, both internally and with clients.
- Develop, mentor, and manage junior engineers, fostering professional development and technical capability within the team.
- Work closely with the directors and other discipline leads to develop project scopes, schedules, budgets, and resourcing plans.
- Identify technical risks and work with the project teams to develop mitigation strategies.
- Support business development by contributing to proposals, client presentations, and project costing.
Required Skills & Experience
- Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
- Chartered Engineer status (or working towards chartership) with a recognised institution (IMechE preferred).
- Significant experience in mechanical design and engineering management, ideally within industrial sectors
- Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, including pressure systems, rotating equipment, piping design, and heat transfer.
- Excellent project management skills with experience managing multi-disciplinary projects from concept to delivery.
- Strong leadership and mentoring abilities, with experience managing engineering teams.
- Experience engaging directly with clients, developing technical solutions, and managing client expectations.
- Familiarity with relevant design software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, etc.) and calculation tools.
Desirable Skills
- Experience in regulatory compliance, including Pressure Equipment Directive (PED), ATEX, DSEAR, and relevant UK/European standards.
- Experience working in an SME or consultancy environment.
- Commercial awareness and ability to contribute to proposals and business development.
- Experience with sustainable technologies (heat recovery, MVR, etc.) would be advantageous.
